Dear Friends,
|
During the late afternoon of the first Easter Sunday two followers of Jesus were making their way along the dusty road which led from Jerusalem to Emmaus. They walked along with heavy hearts and very little talk. The reason for their sorrow was the tragic death of The Beloved Jesus, who had but a short time ago, been cruelly crucified and died on the cross. They had placed so much trust in Him. Now what would they do? Indeed, what could they do? As they made their way along the road a stranger suddenly appeared and joined them. He asked them the reason for their sadness. |
“Because The One that we had hoped would be our Messiah has been crucified,” they answered. This unrecognized visitor then proceeded to review for them those Old Testament Scriptures which spoke of the Messiah’s death and glorious resurrection! Even then their eyes were blinded to the true identity of this mysterious man. |
Finally, during a meal in their home, as He broke bread they suddenly realized...THIS IS JESUS! Immediately He disappeared from sight. As the two disciples sat at that supper table, overcome with joy and awe, one suddenly exclaimed: |
They said to each other, “Weren't we excited when he talked with us on the road and opened up the meaning of the Scriptures for us?” (Luke 24:32) |
When the student of HOPE Bible College and HOPE Seminary can repeat these words as they listen to the Truths from The Holy Scriptures, then the supreme goal of our school will have been achieved. |
